Digital IC Design Engineer

A talented and motivated IC Digital Engineer to work alongside the Analog/RF design and system teams to provide full flow of embedded digital solutions for integrated RF transceiver chipsets for next generation of satellite communications. As a digital frontend/backend engineer, you will be responsible for the design, logic synthesis, place and route (PNR / P&R) and the full flow of digital tasks for semi-custom design in ASICs on different technology nodes.

Technical responsibilities

  • Setting up design frameworks for digital front-end (design) and backend (physical design) tasks
  • Design and implementation of interfaces, state machines, and controlling logic required to create new digital macros within the ASIC chipsets
  • RTL-level digital design and problem solving
  • Run Logic Synthesis on RTL code including creating design timing constraints (SDC), optimisation techniques, Gate Level Simulation (GLS), etc.
  • Designing and Implementing DFT strategies
  • Outline the floor plan of the digital part of the ASIC and work closely with the chip layout lead.
  • Run Place and Route on synthesised netlists applying optimisation techniques for APP (area, power and performance), STA, IR Drop etc.
  • Responsible for the quality of the layout and integration within the chip
  • Delivering all aspects of the digital IP for sign-off.
  • Collaborate with design, system, system integration, test and validation engineers.
  • Summaries and create reports along with necessary technical documentation.
  • Provide broad technical expertise to the team.

  • Ongoing development of core competencies & technical skills
  • Receptive and agile to the project needs.
  • Good estimation of timescales for projects & sub tasks
  • Follow good engineering practices including processes, documentation, tools & automation.
  • Identify risks, flag issues in a timely manner so project milestones remain on schedule.

Essential qualifications and skills

  • Good understanding of digital theory
  • Good understanding of digital interfaces such as I2C, SPI, UART etc
  • Strong RTL coding and documentation practices
  • Verilog fluency in design, simulation, and verification domains
  • Experience in scan insertion and ATPG generation
  • Ability to master the full digital design flow (front-end to back-end)
  • An Engineering degree in a relevant discipline
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in digital IC design
  • Basic knowledge of programming languages (Python, Perl or C,..)
  • Ability to work and interact with engineering teams across multiple disciplines during ASIC project stream development
  • Great communication skills and able to take responsibility for complex digital IC design
  • Excellent planning & organisational skills along with good verbal and written communication skills

Desirable

  • Mixed-signal simulation (Cadence AMS/DMS), interfacing with analog functions and config views
  • Design experience with custom state machines and control logic for use with analog circuits.
  • RTL design for synchronous applications, including multiple clock domains
  • DFT and ATPG scan insertion
  • Experience with scripting languages such as PERL and Python
  • Experience with FPGA’s
  • Experience with using MATLAB and Simulink
  • Experience with LabView programming and environment
