Senior/Principal IC Test/Characterization Engineer

A highly motivated IC Test/Characterization Engineer to work alongside the design and system engineers to provide test solutions for integrated RF transceiver chipsets for next generation of satellite communications. The role will involve leading and implementing test plans, helping the product test engineers, ATE testing and co-ordinating with various engineering departments.

Technical Responsibilities: 

  • Delivering all aspects of the characterization process: creation of test plan, bring up of hardware and automation, execution of testing to schedule and delivering final report to cross functional team.
  • Actively participate in the product development teams throughout the NPI and NPD cycles; collaborating with design, product, test, validation and applications engineers.
  • Co-ordinate test and characterisation activities with other colleagues and possible contractors.
  • Collaborate with the system, RF design, package design and Antenna teams
  • Summaries and create performance reports along with necessary technical documentation.
  • Provide broad technical expertise and mentor junior team members

Organizational Responsibilities:

  • Receptive and agile to the project needs.
  • Good estimation of timescales for projects & sub tasks
  • Follow good engineering practices including processes, documentation, tools & automation.
  • Identify risks, flag issues in a timely manner so project milestones remain on schedule.
  • Ensure all work is correctly documented.

Qualifications & Skills:


  • An Engineering degree in a relevant discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in IC test development (RF/analog and/or digital)
  • Good understanding of state-of-the-art RF circuit design and transceiver architectures
  • Familiarity with semiconductor RF characterization equipment (PNA, probe stations, spectrum analyzer, SMUs)
  • Ability to work and interact with engineering teams across multiple disciplines during ASIC project stream development
  • Great communication skills and able to take responsibility for complex IC test and characterisation and delivery to tight timescales
  • Excellent planning & organisational skills along with good verbal and written communication skills


  • Experience on mmw RF IC design, test and characterization
  • Understanding of Radio systems, gain and noise budgeting, phase noise, intermodulation and S-param.
  • Competence in major test program languages (e.g. Labview, VB, HPV, Python, Perl)
  • Experience on revision control tools
  • Cadence Virtuoso Design Framework Experience
